The Tyrer Family of Formby

This page explores the Tyrer Family of Formby. It is an addition to my Tyrer Family of Lancashire page in which the Tyrers are mainly from Huyton and Knowsley.

Please refer to the Tyrers of Formby family tree in conjunction with the main Tyrer family Tree

Alongside my research into Knowsley, Huyton and Prescot, I found that there was a large Tyrer family of Formby. This is in addition to the children of John Tyrer fisherman born 1701 and his son Anthony’s children born between 1757 and 1769.  I do not yet know if the six generations here fit at any point with those of my other trees; in Prescot or Knowsley/Huyton.

I believe that this branch begins with a William Tyrer of Huyton born between abt 1637 and 1643.  He married Elizabeth Wilcoxon of Warrington on 11th April 1664 at Huyton.  There is another William Tyrer mentioned nearby in Altcar who was buried in 1708 but I have no idea is this could be the same William or not.  I can only find two children of William [no mother is mentioned in the registers] baptised at St Peter, Formby 1

His second son Richard Tyrer, born in 1750, was a brewer, farmer and a malster. He married Alice Rimmer on 28th April 1813 at Formby where they had six children.

The youngest son, Gilbert Tyrer born in 1798, was a farmer and he married Mary Neale (daughter of Thomas Neale and Mary Rimmer) in 1818 5.  They had 11 children between 1818 and 1837 all baptised at Formby St. Peter. 4,5

Ellin, John’s wife died 9th August 1772 2 and was buried on 10th August at Formby St. Peter 1 .  John Tyrer, blacksmith died of fever in 1776 and was buried on 9th April 1766 at Formby 1

This is where it get a little confusing.  We have two John Tyrers that both appear to have died in 1776 in Formby. One is the blacksmith who died of fever, mentioned above.  The other is John Tyrer, fisherman and Yeoman born in 1701 who is referenced in a letter of administration dated 17th May, 1776. Consequently, it is assumed that he died shortly before this.  However, I can find no burial for this other John.
